Under general supervision, this position performs skilled automotive and heavy equipment welding work.

This person will perform various welding tasks to perform structural repairs and fabricate parts for various vehicles and equipment. They will also design and fabricate metal components and structures to improve existing designs and reliability. Additionally, the person will be responsible for inspecting and carrying out routine maintenance on light, heavy, and specialized equipment.

As part of their responsibilities, this individual will not only analyze failures but also make recommendations to prevent similar occurrences in the future. They will also provide advice to staff on specific metal repairs and methods. In addition, they will read and interpret equipment manuals, factory diagrams, and other technical manuals and blueprints. They will also be responsible for sketching and planning drawings as required. Furthermore, they will maintain welding equipment to ensure full compliance with all safety rules and regulations and keep the welding work area neat, orderly, and free of all potential safety hazards.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Welding – Thorough knowledge of arc, metal inert gas (MIG), gas welding procedures,tools, and equipment used in structural repair of light and heavy equipment and various tanks, including knowledge of various types of steel such as cast components and aluminum. Thorough knowledge of air carbon arc cutting and the use of ox-acetylene torches.

Safety – Thorough knowledge of occupational hazards, safety precautions, and safety regulations related to the operation of various welding operations.
