Job Description: Part-Time Custodian
Location: Brawley, CA Employment Status: Part-Time, Non-Exempt
Schedule: PT 9/80 schedule: 5-hour days start time 11 a.m. to 4pm (flexible work schedule preferred)
Pay Rate: $18.00 /hr.
Position Overview
Under general supervision, the Part-Time Custodian performs routine cleaning, maintenance, and manual labor tasks to ensure that office buildings and affordable housing properties remain clean, safe, and well-maintained. This position plays a vital role in supporting a healthy living environment for residents and maintaining a professional appearance across all Authority facilities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Facility Cleaning: Clean hallways, stairwells, offices, and common areas by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, and vacuuming regularly.
- Sanitation: Thoroughly clean and disinfect restrooms and kitchen areas; restock soap, paper towels, and other supplies as needed.
- Waste Disposal: Empty, clean, and maintain trash and recycling containers in both indoor and outdoor areas.
- Grounds Maintenance: Remove litter, debris, and graffiti from sidewalks, parking lots, and building entrances.
- Unit Readiness: Assist with cleaning and light maintenance of vacant housing units to prepare them for new occupants.
- Safety and Security: Secure buildings by locking and unlocking doors and windows; promptly report safety hazards or major repair needs to management.
- Confidentiality and Compliance
- Maintain strict confidentiality regarding all resident and Authority information encountered during work duties.
- Follow HIPAA privacy regulations when handling or encountering any Protected Health Information (PHI).
- Immediately report any suspected privacy breaches or unsecured sensitive documents to a supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or GED required.
- Licensing: Valid California driver’s license with the ability to remain insurable under companies vehicle insurance policy.
- Experience: Prior custodial or janitorial experience (6 months to 1 year).
- Other requirements: Applicant must be able to pass a background check and a drug screen.
Skills and Physical Requirements
- Knowledge of modern cleaning techniques, chemicals, and proper use of custodial equipment such as buffers and vacuums.
- Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions and maintain positive working relationships with staff and residents.
- Physical ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
